Staying focused at work isn’t always easy. It’s safe to say most of us get preoccupied or feel uninspired at least once during the working day. However, even with motivation low, we must crack on with the tasks at hand.
So how can you improve your efficiency? How do you make sure you get the maximum out of the time you spend at work? Especially as you’ll want to keep your recreational time free.
Well, there are masses of ways to stay prolific at work, believe it or not. We have narrowed it down to our most useless – here are our 5 top tips.
Breakfast or Break Fast
Start your day off right. Opt for a healthy breakfast, and by healthy I mean oats, porridge, wholemeal toast, eggs, yoghurt and fruit. Try to choose food with slow-release energy to keep you going until lunchtime. If you have an unhealthy breakfast or skip on eating altogether, you risk yourself feeling fatigued, agitated and unfocused.
Here are some quick and simple recipes that can even be prepped the night before.
Outside the box
Prescribe yourself a good dosage of daylight and fresh air – it’s good for the soul. If your office environment is stale and dim and relies on air conditioning, getting outside can evoke all sorts of benefits to your health, helping you to stay on track when you’re back at your desk.
Your One And Only
Devote yourself to one task at a time. Multitasking might seem more productive, but in fact, it has been proven to be a myth. This is one of my worst habits and I often find I’m trying to write emails, update Twitter and edit a video all at the same time. It’s hopeless trying to do everything at once because you’ll be splitting your attention between tasks and risk mistakes.
Tidy Desk, Tidy Mind
Make it a daily ritual to arrange your desk or workspace before you finish for the day. De-clutter and get organised and you’ll start each day with a clean slate. If your desk is untidy, you’ll almost certainly struggle to stay productive. Under the desk pedestals, drawers and cupboards can keep your desk in order and make your space like chaotic. If this one is resonating with you, it may be ideal to give us a call and we can help figure out the best storage solution for you.
I Saw The Sign
Finally, if you’re still feeling like you’re Mr/Mrs Unproductive from Distractedville and not tackling your workload as quickly or easily as you’d like, keep a notebook throughout the day and jot down all the things that distract you or slaughter your workflow. You’ll soon see patterns developing and start to understand where you need to make some positive changes.
