Stay focused
How to get the most of working on your own.
Many of our articles, here at Bevlan Blog, will help you improve the performance of your team and show you how different products from Bevlan Office Interiors range can make your team achieve their best. However, we understand that this is not always the case. There are many of you who prefer to work on their own, with no distractions or compromises whatsoever. That would include Graphic Designers, Personal Assistants, Writers, Artists and many, many more. Those people just simply want to be alone with their own thoughts, stay focused, and get things own. If you are one of those people, work with that kind of person, or simply want to improve your productivity when working independently, this weeks edition of Bevlan Blog is right for you.
We are all different. That’s a fact. Different things will have a different impact on each of us. However, there are many solutions that were proven successful in improving productivity while working alone. Here, we’ve picked for you 5 of, in our opinion, the most useful ones.
1. Get your workstation organised.
This may sound obvious, but you would be surprised how many people don’t really care or are too busy to properly organise their workspace, especially when they are working on your own. This is one of the principles of staying productive, but still, people sometimes don’t realise how important it is to keep everything handy. We have expanded a bit more on arranging your workspace in our previous article about Ergonomics.
2. Write a To-Do List.
The key here is to be realistic about what can you achieve in one day. Decide about the time frame and stick to your plan. That way you’ll be able to track the amount of work you’ve already completed, and what you have left.
There are many apps and programs that will help you keep track of your everyday tasks. That includes the software you normally use at work, like Microsoft Outlook, and free mobile apps, like Planner Pro, Microsoft To-Do and more.
Choose your mobile operating system to see a list of apps available for your device.
3. Take short, frequent brakes.
Yes, that’s right. If you want to stay more productive and do more work, you need to know when to take a break from it. It’s important to take a short 1-2 minute stretch breaks every 30 minutes and after each hour of work, take a break, or change tasks for about 5 minutes.
We have covered this topic in more detail in one of our previous Bevlan Blog posts: “Ergonomics -Why is it important?”

4. Mak it easier for yourself. Break big tasks into small ones.
That way you will be able to manage your time better and you will have a better idea of how much work do you have left. If needed, by breaking your big tasks into smaller ones, you have an ability to continue where you left-of with a plan and time management ready at any time.
5. When working on your own, unplug Social Media
We don’t mean your business sites and profiles that may help you generate sales and stay in touch with clients. We mean your personal social media profile that you would normally check while waiting for a bus, train, at a cafe, or somewhere else during your spare time.
Social Media is probably the biggest enemy of staying productive. Obviously, it has its advantages and positive impact on you and your personal life, but at work, it’s just another distraction you should probably avoid.
