Several studies show that, on average, people spend about 90% of their day indoors. Even 35% of employees don’t go outside during their working day for more than 15 minutes. Routine and lack of contact with an outside world can have fatal consequences, like losing concentration, stress, tiredness, and even depression.
We believe that this problem has an easy solution. This week, at Bevlan Blog, we would like to give you some advice on how applying Biophilic Design can help you create a comfortable and relaxing working environment for you and your employees.
But first, what is a Biophilic Design?
It was first introduced in 1984 by Edward O. Wilson. In a nutshell, it’s a concept of incorporating the natural environment within the interior design. It creates a peaceful atmosphere and improves the user’s wellbeing. That’s especially important when it comes to office space, as that is where people spend most of their day.
There are countless possibilities when it comes to biophilic solutions at your space. Starting with simple plants in pots, all the ways to big living walls. With biophilia, the sky is the limit.
“Inborn affinity human being have for other forms of life, an affiliation evoked, according to circumstances, by pleasure, or a sense of security, or awe, or even fascination blended with revulsion”
-Edward O. Wilson, “Biophilia” 1984 Harvard University Press.
