How to optimise your office space

Office design is constantly adapting and changing to adhere to new trends and different requirements. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, more offices opted for choices that allow for spaced working that permit social distancing and independent work. Walls can be too divided and segregating, closing off light and lack mobility. There are many ways to optimise your office space, including the use of storage.
The issue with walls separating spaces is the lack of teamwork, the feeling of isolation and the inability to move them. There are options to separate groups that aren’t such a permanent fixture such as U-Shaped desks, desk screens, acoustic booths and using storage as a space separator.
There’s an element of added interest and a focal point with shelving as room partitions. Instead of a static open area that you can view all in one go, you now have a dynamic space that takes you on a journey, with different elements to discover along the way. There is also the option to change it around whenever you please! Furniture and accessories that can be manoeuvred help nurture social interaction and communication between colleagues.
With open shelving, you can see through the divide, increasing the perception of space. Open shelves add interest with a display of decorative accessories. While the closed cupboards below are perfect for storing away all kinds of clutter out of sight.
As discussed in our last journal entry, “How can privacy help productivity?”, with the right combination of office partitioning, good office furniture, a well-thought out space plan and of course, some expertise of an experienced office refurbishment company, an open plan office design can work really well.
Separating spaces doesn’t always require height. Even a low-level credenza or sideboard can separate open plan spaces creating a barrier but still keeping the spacious environment whilst keeping that extra storage element. Some options even come with padded tops designed for seating as well as having storage below.
