Sustainability is at the heart of the Sia Task Chair's design process. The virgin plastic used in the structural elements has been driven down to just 30%, with the remaining 70% being recycled plastic, 43% of which is post-consumer. This approach helps absorb plastic waste and cuts the embedded carbon in the finished piece. Sia is also designed for longevity, as its fewer components and lack of adhesives make it easier to replace damaged parts. At the end of its lifecycle, this design makes it easier to separate and reuse or recycle components. Sia has a total carbon footprint of 58.02 kg CO2e. The total recycled content is 70.6%, and the recyclable content is 99.4%.
The design team worked with leading ergonomist Levent Çaglar at FIRA to develop a task chair that provides optimum comfort and support. The back section has the right amount of flex and twist, allowing it to mould to the human form and provide lumbar support without restricting movement. Sia's generous high back, a lumbar pad with a 100 mm adjustment range, and multi-adjustable armrests make it customisable to a wide variety of body shapes and sizes.
The Sia chair offers a variety of customisation options. The back frames and lumbar are available in four colours: Black, Copper Brown, Reed Green, and Oyster White. The mesh back options include:
Additional options include multi-functional arms with arm pads, a polished five-star base, and silver castors. The chair can even be specified with castors made from seed oil instead of petrochemical-based plastics, further reducing its environmental impact.
